| The term headache |

The term headache comes from two words ‘HEAD’ meaning the uppermost portion of human body i.e. the area beginning from forehead and right above eyes or ears, back of upper neck, and ‘ACHE’ meaning pain. Thus a headache is described as paining of the the head due to some reason. In today’s fast running life where every second counts on a life headaches are really common as compared to the past when getting a headache would affect one’s entire family nowadays its more like of tea. The reasons are simple this is the age of computers, gadgets and gizmos where an average individual spends 15-18 hours of his day in front of computers. The brain has no time to relax and so even teenagers complain of headaches. Normally headaches are of two types primary and secondary headaches. Under primary comes tension, cluster and migraine headaches which most common amongst the working individuals. Tension headaches persist mostly in middle age groups and particularly housewives. Due to family issues and domestic violence women tend to have severe headache problems. Migraine headache is the second most common type of headache found. These however usually are regular in children before puberty and later after that women are targeted more than men as up to 18% whereas men land up in 6% category. Then there are cluster headaches which are rarely observed affecting a maximum of 0.1% population. These are usually common in men. Then comes secondary headaches which are usually resultant of some associated disease. These headaches occur when there is exists a minor or major head related disease which can be life threatening even like brain tumors, skull fractures, a brain hemorrhage, meningitis etc. Fainting, falling down, sudden blackouts, fits, are the common symptoms seen alongside secondary headaches. Headaches were not so common in the near past as as they are today and the studies suggest that in the coming future it will not be a surprise to see children aged 10-12 years having primary headaches. The resultant fact6ors are 5the technological advancements, the age on internet, I-pods, mobiles and video games. When an individual devotes half of day to the computers his brain will ultimately get tired because he is doing more of mental work than physical. So at a point brain demands rest and when not given the result is a HEADACHE. Even children are busy watching television or playing video games and practice no physical activity. These all are majorly responsible for the increasing number of headache issues amongst all age groups. It is important that we manage our lifestyle this way that we are able to lead a healthy life avoiding headaches. And so have to resort less to medicines to control them as well. Less headaches mean a better and tension free healthy mind and body as well.. |
